Cleveland RTA Red Line Art Project Features Work Inspired by Andrew Solomon

Phase II of the INTER|URBAN Cleveland RTA Red Line art program has been unveiled as part of Cleveland Book Week 2018. Works by 25 Northeast Ohio artists have been installed on 25 Red Line train cars, including illustrator Julia Kuo’s take on a quote by Andrew Solomon:

"If you banish the dragons, you banish the heroes." -- Andrew Solomon. Installation and photo © Julia Kuo.

Participants in this phase of the INTER|URBAN Cleveland RTA Red Line art program have taken their inspiration from five Anisfield-Wolf Book Award winners:

1. The Negro Speaks of Rivers, Langston Hughes
2. The Great Migration, Isabel Wilkerson
3. The Fortunes, Peter Ho Davies
4. Far From the Tree, Andrew Solomon
5. The Gay Revolution, Lillian Faderman

The INTER|URBAN launched in 2016 with the creation of 18 murals and public art exhibitions between the airport and downtown along Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority’s Red Line.

The INTER|URBAN connects a broad, public audience to Anisfield-Wolf Book Award-winning literature that confronts race, racism, and cultural differences. It is an ongoing collaboration between the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority, LAND studio, the Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards, and the Cleveland Foundation.
