Scribner and Howard and Sarah Solomon hosted a celebration for the publication of Andrew Solomon’s latest book, Far & Away, on Wednesday April 20…. Solomon, who visited seven continents in 25 years, writes these moving, sometimes frightening, and always mind-expanding stories with his inimitable combination of poignancy, compassion, and humor.

The party was the first event held in the newly renovated Gottesman Hall in the Stephen A. Schwarzman building of the New York Public Library.

…[New York Public Library president Anthony] Marx, who is clearly a fan of Solomon’s, gave a strong and heartfelt speech.

“With this new book, Andrew Solomon urges us, as he has for a while, to find our own bravery, not to hide from the realities, but to see in ourselves, and see in each other, the best of what is possible, made perhaps all the more visible, in what can be the hardest of circumstances. There can be no more powerful message in this day, and as far as I can tell, there is no more powerful voice to send that message.”
