Andrew Solomon will be a featured speaker at Overcoming Adversity: Bold Perspectives on Mental Health and Addiction, the 2019 Conference of Howard Center, a provider of mental health, developmental disability and substance use services in Chittenden County, Vermont.

The conference is designed for a broad audience, including mental health and healthcare providers, educators, clients and families, representatives of state and local government, law enforcement and the judiciary, and community members. Sessions will focus on current and future trends in mental health and addiction treatment, including themes of confronting stigma, improving access, continuing advocacy, advancing policy, and giving voice.

Other conference speakers include schizophrenia expert and Howard Chief Medical Officer Sandra Steingard; New York Times Op-Ed columnist Charles Blow; and Johann Hari, author of Chasing the Scream: the First and Last Days of the War on Drugs.
