Based on Andrew Solomon’s award-winning book, Far from the Tree: Parents, Children, and the Search for Identity, the documentary Far From the Tree is an emotional celebration of how families deal with the challenges and rewards of children who are different from what they expect. The message of the film is that there is no longer one “normal family” paradigm, and that diversity enriches the lives of parents and children even under the most unexpected circumstances.

This is a joint presentation between MUSE Academy, an independent private school, and Brooklyn Music School, a community school for the arts, both located in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Copies of the book will be available for purchase, courtesy of Greenlight Bookstore.

The screening will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m., followed by remarks by Andrew Solomon and a reception and book signing starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5.00 in advance, $7.00 at the door. To purchase tickets, please visit Eventbrite.
