No Brasil por conta da divulgação do documentário, Longe da Árvore, o escritor recebeu Marie Claire para uma entrevista no hotel Fasano, em São Paulo, onde esteve hospedado. Andrew falou sobre depressão, inclusão, intolerância nesses tempos de ascensão mundial do conservadorismo, censura e, como não poderia deixar de ser, família e paternidade.
…In Brazil for the national premiere of the documentary Far From the Tree, the writer received Marie Claire for an interview at the Hotel Fasano, in São Paulo, where he was staying. Andrew talked about depression, inclusion, intolerance in these rising world times of conservatism, censorship, and, of course, family and parenthood.
Muito embora seja inevitável não enxergar em Longe da Árvore uma bíblia sobre tolerância, começando pelo seio das famílias onde nascem quem mais precisa contar com essa qualidade humana, Andrew ressalta que seu livro é, antes de mais nada, sobre resiliência. E sobre a capacidade das pessoas de resistir a desafios que elas nunca teriam previsto, mas que, diante do inevitável, podem sair mais fortes em vez de se sentirem derrotadas.
While it is inevitable that Far From the Tree would be looked upon as a tolerance bible, starting with the families where those who are born have the most need for this human quality, Andrew points out that his book is primarily about resilience — about people’s ability to withstand challenges they would never have anticipated, but which, in the face of the inevitable, can result in a feeling of strength instead of defeat.
