De 2007 a 2016, o índice de suicídios registrados no Brasil subiu 18%. … A facilitação da posse de armas de fogo, tema do decreto que o presidente Jair Bolsonaro assinará nesta semana, pode ser um ingrediente a mais no aumento dos suicídios no país.
… O escritor americano Andrew Solomon é autor do best-seller sobre depressão O demônio do meio-dia Em livro recém-lançado no Brasil, Um crime da solidão – Reflexões sobre o suicídio, ele afirma que “o suicídio é, com frequência, um ato impulsivo e, se os meios não estiverem à mão, o impulso passa e as pessoas vão em frente e vivem bem”.
Solomon defende restrições à posse de armas. “Quem precisa procurar por uma arma em geral acaba tendo tempo para refletir melhor antes de usá-la, ao passo que alguém que pode agarrar uma arma num momento de raiva não dispõe desse tempo.”

Solomon advocates for restrictions on possession of weapons. “Whoever has to look for a gun usually has time to think better before using it, while someone who can grab a gun in a moment of anger does not have that time.”
